Domains and mailboxes
Which domain your outreach sends from, what provisioned and warmed means, and why to keep cold outreach off your main mailbox.
The domain your pitches come from affects whether they land in the inbox at all. This page covers your options and what is handled for you.
Two ways to send#
- A genlink-branded domain (Free plan). The Free plan sends from a domain GenLink provides, so you can try outreach without setting up your own. Volume is a few emails a day, and the agent finds sites and writes pitches for you.
- Your own domain (paid agent). On a $50/mo Backlink agent, you send from your own domains and mailboxes. This is what you want for real outreach: replies come back to you, and links get pitched in your name.
Note: the marketing site lists a Free tier, but when you sign up today the Hire an agent modal only offers the $50/mo backlink agent with a 7-day free trial. Expect to start on the paid agent's trial rather than a separate free tier.
What "provisioned and warmed" means#
On a paid agent, your own domains and mailboxes are provisioned and warmed. Two things are happening:
- Provisioned: the mailbox is set up so it can send reliably as part of your outreach.
- Warmed: a new domain or mailbox has no sending reputation, so blasting from it lands you in spam. Warmup ramps sending volume up gradually and builds a track record over time, so your real pitches are trusted when they go out. This is slow by design, and it runs in the background.
Mailbox rotation#
When you run more volume across multiple mailboxes, GenLink can rotate sending across them so no single mailbox is overloaded. Combined with the per-agent daily cap and the 30-minute spacing between sends, this keeps each mailbox inside healthy limits. See deliverability and safety.
Do not use your main mailbox for cold outreach#
Point cold outreach at a separate domain, not your primary company mailbox. Two reasons:
- Reputation risk. Cold outreach can attract spam complaints and bounces. If that reputation damage lands on the domain you use for real business email, it can hurt your day-to-day deliverability.
- Separation. A dedicated outreach domain keeps your outreach, warmup, and reputation self-contained, so a bad week does not follow you into your main inbox.
A common setup is a close variant of your brand domain, used only for outreach, kept warm and clean.
What is automatic, and what needs you#
- Automatic: warmup, rotation across connected mailboxes, spacing and caps, and the self-healing deliverability adjustments that back off when signals look risky.
- Needs a human: deciding which domain to use, connecting the Google mailbox (see connect your mailbox), and any domain-level DNS your provider requires to authenticate mail.
Once your sending domain is set, teach the agent who you are in your business profile.
