Earn your first backlink
From sign up to your first approved sends: onboard, connect a mailbox, hire an agent, and brief it.
This is the fastest path from a new account to real outreach going out. You will onboard, connect a mailbox, hire a backlink agent, brief it, and approve the first pitches yourself.
1. Sign up and finish your profile#
Create your account, and a short 3-step wizard opens on its own. It is the fastest way to give the agent what it needs.
- Your business. Enter your Business name and Website. Press Read my site and the agent reads your site to fill in what it can, so you type less. It only looks when you ask it to.
- You. Outreach goes out in a real person's name, so add Your name, and optionally LinkedIn and X / Twitter.
- What you sell. Answer What do you sell?, Who do you sell it to?, and Anything else worth knowing. These two sentences shape every pitch.
You can press I'll do this later and finish from Finish your profile in the workspace menu, or the Finish your setup banner on the agents page. The Website you enter here is what Results tracks.
2. Connect your mailbox#
Outreach lands better when it comes from you. Connect a Google mailbox with one click. You can do this now on Settings > Sending under Connected sending accounts, or inside the hire modal in the next step.
Note: today the connect button is Google only, even though the pricing page mentions Outlook. Use a Google account, and see connect your mailbox for the full flow and what to do if the connection expires.
3. Hire a backlink agent#
Open Hire an agent. There is one role today, Backlink agent, which "finds relevant articles and pitches to get you added as a link, all month, on its own." It is $50/mo per agent.
- Give the agent a name, or keep the suggested one.
- Pick a Sending mailbox. Each agent sends from exactly one mailbox. If you skip this, the agent can draft but cannot send until you assign one in Settings > Sending.
- Confirm. Your first 7 days are free, and nothing is charged until the trial ends.
4. Brief it#
Open the agent's Job description and write a concrete goal with a number and a timeframe. A good brief looks like: "Win 10 backlinks to our pricing page from SaaS and marketing blogs by the end of the month. Skip direct competitors." The agent reads its brief every session and works toward it. Full guidance is in brief your agent.
5. Watch rows appear#
The agent starts finding sites and building a prospect table. Rows arrive as it searches, or you can seed them with Find articles, Upload CSV, or Add Row. Each row is a site or page it can pitch, and the agent drafts an email for the ones that fit. See prospect tables.
6. Approve the first batch#
Nothing sends until you say so. Open a drafted row, read the pitch, edit it if you want, and mark it Ready to send. You can bulk-approve with Mark ready to send. This is the one gate that matters: the backend refuses to send anything that is not ready. See approve and send.
What happens over the next few days#
The agent sends approved pitches from your mailbox, spaced at least 30 minutes apart and inside your workday and daily cap. As replies come in, it sorts them by intent in the inbox and surfaces the ones that need you. When a site adds your link, the win shows up in Results once the index sees it.
That is the whole loop. From here, tune the brief, add more agents if you want more volume, and keep an eye on the inbox.
